ALDERSHOT BID FOR REID ACCEPTED

22 July 2012

Following interest from two League Two clubs, Stevenage have accepted a 5 figure bid from Aldershot Town for Craig Reid, and the striker is due to meet them tomorrow.

The 26 year old was not taken on the club's tour to Ireland after Aldershot's bid was accepted on Thursday, and it is believed he is keen to link up again with his previous manager, Dean Holdsworth. Reid was a £90,000 club record signing in January 2011 and helped Stevenage to promotion in the 2011/12 season. He made 33 appearances last season, scoring 7 goals.

Manager Gary Smith has now come to the end of his squad restructuring in terms of the exit door, but is still looking to add a couple of players before the end of the month. Chairman Phil Wallace said “We have had three written bids from Doncaster for Jon Ashton and we have now said no in writing three times, as the bids increased. The message to them has been the same each time and will not change no matter how many bids are made.”

He continued “We have a policy on selling players to clubs within the same division in this transfer window. The players know that policy and understand it. Jon has loved his time at Stevenage, has another year to go and knows that we will not allow one of our best players to move in this window to a club that we intend to compete against for promotion. Like skipper Mark Roberts, who has also been the subject of interest from Doncaster, Jon is a great pro and I’m sure he’ll want to set his sights on doing everything he can to win promotion for our club, in exactly the same way as he did so well last year”
