Maamria: "We are ready for a win"

23 August 2019

Dino Maamria says his team are on the right track to gain his first win of the 2019/20 season…

A goalless draw at Leyton Orient and an unfortunate home defeat to Bradford City in midweek has not dampened spirits in the dressing room, as Stevenage look to change their fortunes this weekend.

“I think we are ready for a win, off the back of the last two performances. At Orient away and Tuesday night, we did a lot right. We have got to make sure we keep doing those right things, and then add quality at both ends of the pitch. The goal we conceded on Tuesday night against Bradford was disappointing, we need to defend the corner better. On the other side of it, we need to be more clinical with our chances. I think we are on the right path.”

Dino Maamria’s squad has struggled with injuries in the first few weeks of the season, with a number of key players stuck in the physio room for the foreseeable future.

“We all know we have had a difficult start in terms of not just the calendar, but with the injuries we have had. I have been changing the team more than what I would like, but I think the performances have been better from the Southend game. The team are finding rhythm going forward.”

“It is difficult as a player when you put that much effort into Tuesday night dominating the game and doing all the right things, and it could not fall for us. You have got to stay positive, they are a positive group. They are excited to see that the work we have been doing is working.

“We are lacking that first goal, and when we get that goal I think we will get two or three.”

After one of the highlights of the season at Mansfield last time, Dino Maamria looks ahead to Saturday’s fixture this time round.

“It was a great day in the back end of the season. it is always a difficult place to go when they have seven or eight thousand fans there supporting them. We have got to worry about ourselves, and focus on what we have got to do, like we did last season, and try to dominate possession. Keep their crowd quiet, play on the front foot, and the play the game we are capable of playing.”
