GORMAN DELIGHTED TO BE REWARDED WITH NEW DEAL

12 January 2017

Young Stevenage midfielder and academy graduate, Dale Gorman spoke with pride about signing a new contract earlier in the week.

Gorman has now made the step up from youth team, to the fringe of the first team, to becoming a first team regular this season. He admits that the speed of his progress has been something of a surprise.

“It is really pleasing. When I got told I was offered a new contract I was really happy with it because it is nice to just know that you are getting recognition for doing well. Also, I really like it here so I was happy.

“I didn’t think I would get as much game time as I have been but since the start of the season I have been given a chance and thankfully I took it.”

Boss Darren Sarll brought Gorman into the clubs academy five years ago and the midfielder is thankful for the opportunities of which he has taken.

“I can only say thinks to him for showing a bit of faith in me and just chucking me in I suppose. He has shown trust in a lot of young players this year and we have repaid him in many ways so it has been good.”

Although we have seen many young players thrive this season, Gorman says the more experienced players in the dressing have been fantastic in their support.

“It is always good to have older players that play in your position. Every day they are always giving you tips and you just learn off them.

“It is just a great group here at the minute and we are learning every day, us youngsters.”

Known predominantly as a tenacious, tough tackling and energetic midfield player, Gorman says he is eager to show he has more to his game.

“I am known as a defensive minded player but I am just trying to add goals at the minute. It always helps when you are a midfielder, scoring goals. I think that is one thing I need to add to my game and I will be working on that over the next few years.”

Ahead of the weekend’s game away at Plymouth, Gorman was bullish about our chances.

“It is going to be a tough task as they have been top of the league for a reason but listen, we are more than capable of beating them away from home.

"Our away form has been brilliant this year so we will be alright.”
