JONES: IT IS STARTING TO LOOK A BIT MORE PROMISING

23 November 2016

Having helped Boro to three points with a couple of outstanding saves at Accrington on Saturday, goalkeeper Jamie Jones was named in the official EFL team of the week on Monday morning.

Jones spoke to BBC Three Counties Radio about the 1-0 win and the recognition for his performance.

“I had a good game Saturday and we were all pleased to come away with the result.

“I think that (final save) was the pick of the bunch. It was always a tight one going up one-and-one but I just spread myself and did as much as I could. Because it was so late on it always seems a bit better too when you hang onto a result.

“I think it was (a deserved win). We pushed right up the table and it is still very tight but it is starting to look a bit more promising this season.

“We are coming into a good vein of form but we just need to take every week as it comes and hopefully keep getting better and better.”

Replacing a legendary shot-stopper like Chris Day is no easy task, as many goalkeepers who tried and failed over the years could attest to.

Since arriving on loan in January, Jones has made himself a mainstay in the team and now fully settled, says he is loving life at Stevenage.

“Definitely. I didn’t settle at Preston, I played about 20 games there and was sent out loan a few times. I am really enjoying it here.

“I am getting to know the fans more and it is such a well-run, family club that it’s just a pleasure to play for them each week.”

When asked about what it’s like to work with the manager, Jones only had positive words about the boss and the direction he is taking the club in.

“He has been great for me since I have been at the club. He took over after one game of me being here and he gave us a new lease of life.

“We were in a bad situation in January when I joined and we are on the move up. He is working us very hard and we are reaping the rewards as of late in the league. Hopefully we can keep showing that and pushing up the table because he is a great manager to work with.”
