SARLL: I ENJOYED THE PERFORMANCE

16 October 2016

Darren Sarll was glad to see his side get back to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing 2-0 win away at Morecambe.

Goals from Matt Godden and Ben Kennedy either side of half-time did the business for Boro as the team held on for their first away win in the league this season.

“I enjoyed the performance. The players played well, I thought their energy was good and their possession was a lot, lot better than in recent weeks. There was a nicer balance between the possession and pressing today.

“Three points anywhere is massive. There is still a long way to go but breaking that psychological barrier of ‘the first one’ is always so important.”

The manner of both goals pleased the manager and he also revealed how Kennedy’s stunner was a case of practice makes perfect.

“I thought it was a great ball by Dale Gorman. Real quality in a key, key position to pick someone out over the top of somebody from such close range was a showcase of his technical ability.

“Ben actually did that twice on Thursday in training. The exact same goal from the exact same position. So that was certainly one that was coming.”

Things could have got nervy with just a few minutes to go as Morecambe were awarded a penalty after a contentious handball decision on Charlie Lee.

Thankfully the post helped protect our clean sheet but Sarll says the defenders earned that bit of luck.

“They did work hard but I felt we dodged a few bullets. I am not sure with the pen. At first glance I thought it was but then I was told by my advisor, Mr Glenn Roeder, that it wasn’t. So, Glenn is always right and therefore I would have thought it wasn’t a pen.

"We dodged a bullet there but they deserved that. They worked terrifically hard and there was a good organisation to us. It was a very, very pleasing afternoon.”
