SARLL LEFT ENCOURAGED DESPITE CARLISLE DEFEAT

22 October 2016

Darren Sarll had plenty of positives to point towards after the 2-1 defeat to unbeaten Carlisle United at the Lamex Stadium.

After going behind to a contentious opener for the visitors, Stevenage struck back with a Matt Godden penalty before the Cumbrians were awarded one of their own early in the second half.

There was certainly no lack of goalmouth action as Boro went in search of a route back into the game, but it wasn’t to be as Carlisle extended their excellent start to the season.

“I thought we played very well. We certainly had a feeling in the dressing room that we haven’t come away with what we deserved, whether that be a point or three,” Sarll said.

“Obviously we are a little bit disappointed with certain decision that might have been made; as Keith would have been at half-time. It was so near but so far from us again but I am encouraged by the energy and tenacity in our performance.

“I am most impressed by the manner in which the players wanted to entertain and play for the fans.

“They ran their absolute socks off and we definitely tried to take the ball, create, score and there were plenty of opportunities in their box to take.”

When asked about how the group will respond to the disappointment, Sarll says they will continue to work in the same manner and that he believes results will take care of themselves.

“We keep going. We keep practicing and it will fall.

“We have got the strength, the experience and the resolve to come out of any situation. We are not on a ridiculous losing run; could we be winning more games? Absolutely.

“It is something that will turn because we are playing the right way, we are playing in a manner that makes our supporters want to come watch us again and support the players. We are playing in a way that will turn into goals, clean sheets and ultimately, points.”
