SARLL: MOTIVATION LEVELS FOR THEM WILL BE HIGH

18 November 2016

With Saturday’s game away at Accrington in mind, Darren Sarll says that his side have moved on quickly from the disappointment of last weekend’s sucker punch against Yeovil.

Ben Whitfield’s injury time goal ended up costing Boro ten places in the table which Sarll believes was the most difficult aspect to take.

“I don’t think they came back into training with that bounce. I don’t think anyone did. I don’t even think it was the draw or the manner of the draw. I think it’s the fact that with 30 seconds to go you are sitting in 10th and the world thinks X about you. 30 seconds later you are sitting in 20th and the world is thinking Y about you.

“That is the emotional response that you have to try and get over. But, we do what we always do, we work very hard. I punished them by keeping them here for hours upon end on Monday afternoon and we moved on very quickly.

“It is important you move on very quickly because when the dust settles and you can see the wood through the trees, it is one defeat in four in the league. We have won our last two away games in the league. We are disappointed with our current home form, of course.”

Despite that, Boro are still in the thick of it with a game in hand and Blackpool in ninth only three points away.

Having spoiled Accrington’s promotion party last season with a goalless draw on the final day of the season, Sarll expects tomorrow’s opposition to be highly motivated.

“Yeah, quite right. Retribution or motivation levels for them will be high because they did so brilliantly well last year. We obviously went there, got a good clean sheet, a good nil nil and did it properly.

“They did their job as professional footballers; a lot of professional footballers around the country that day were with their flip flops on ready for the beach. We just did our job and we wanted to win. I wanted to win because at that point I really wanted to be manager of the football club.

“Stevenage and Accrington has got a bit of a tag about it to make it a bit feisty and we will go there to do our job as we always do.

“It is important we just go there, do as we have planned and execute our day's work in a proper fashion.”
