SARLL: IT WAS IMPORTANT WE TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS

19 November 2016

Darren Sarll was delighted with his team as Boro came away with a hard fought 1-0 win at Accrington.

Godden’s fifth goal of the season was the difference and Sarll spoke glowingly about how his players performed after the break.

“We were a little bit sloppy first half; I thought we could have maybe imposed ourselves a little more. In the second half we were very much on the front foot, lots of high intensity work and I am very proud of the players today. So proud of the players.

“I just reminded them about how we play and what we work on all day, every day and the second half is what we work on. Very resilient, very hard working, front foot, lots of energy. It was a really good second half performance.

“We regained the ball so high on so many occasions which is typical of what we are trying to do here. It was only matter of time and the actual goal we scored was probably the worst of the chances we created.”

“Matty worked so hard and I always say, ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get it’ and it was probably his most difficult chance all afternoon. He has led our line so brilliantly this season for a lad who has just come out of a lower league and he fully deserved that.”

The win went someway to repaying the dropped points last week against Yeovil as Stevenage moved into 13th and within reaching distance of the top seven.

“The table is not going to wait forever. That was the message for the players this week. It doesn’t wait around for you so it is important you take advantage when you can.

“I really want our game in hand to be a bonus, something to allow us to get even higher. So, it was important we took care of business.”
