Darren Sarll hopes that his players can back up last weekend’s win away at Morecambe by showing their best in-front of the home fans this Saturday against Carlisle.
When asked about whether or not the win has made a big difference in the mood of the camp this week, Sarll denied that to be the case.
“No, actually. Not with this group of players. I can remember a particular comment Glenn Roeder made when he first came to the club. He came in on the first day and we had lost five in a row. At the end of the day I sat down with Glenn and I asked if he had any observations and he said, ‘there is zero wrong with your team spirit.’
“Sometimes when you are in it so much as I was then, it is hard as young manager to see the wood through the trees and it wouldn’t have been an observation I would have made.
“I have got to say, even when we have been two or three without a win this year, their attitude is excellent. This is what I keep saying to people, it is never for the want of trying with us.”
Sarll admits that frustrations have run high throughout the early part of the season, mainly because everybody knows that the group are capable of so much more.
“Yeah and that is the same with the players. They reflect that as well with their observations and comments on recent performances. We have got to be better, we are capable, we will be capable and we are still only 12 games in, there is such a long way to go.
“It is a tough game but it is a good game for us. If the boys are frustrated with what we have done this year and what we are capable of doing, now is the perfect time to go and bring your potential to the table and actually fulfil it.”
Saturday’s visitors, Carlisle United are third in the table, still unbeaten after 13 games and Sarll spoke about his opposition manager.
“He has done terrific. I think Keith Curle, tactically, is one of the best managers in our league so I have got massive respect to him in that sense.
“I learned a lot of lessons last year when we played Carlisle and got beat 1-0 away. I think it was my fourth game as caretaker and we played brilliantly, absolutely brilliantly.
"We missed a host of chances but Keith did a few things that day that in the postseason I looked back on and thought, ‘hmm that was clever, I see what you did there.’”
