Darren Sarll says he couldn’t have asked for much more from his players as they came up just short in their quest for three points at Yeovil.
Boro were on top for most of the game and if it were not for a Man of the Match performance from Yeovil stopper, Maddison, the outcome could have been very different.
“I thought we were the better team on the day. I thought we passed the ball quite well but at times showed a little bit of complacency because of the dominance of the ball we had. We kind of opened ourselves up more and more and we were always a bit vulnerable on the break. But for me, by far the better side.
“We stuck to our principles, we came to Yeovil, we passed the ball, we played in the correct fashion and very offensively. We just couldn’t force it over the line.
“You could see the development from us a year on against someone that was very close to us last year in Yeovil. The evolution of the side is there for everyone to see and we will continue to develop that side in League One or League Two.”
The draw means Boro will need to win against Accrington next Saturday and hope for either Blackpool or Carlisle to slip up in order to reach the play-offs.
Although there was a lot of disappointment after the game, the point could still prove valuable.
“I think we would have had to win whatever. We have taken a good point away from home, like we did at Carlisle last away game and we know we have to win next week and have our fingers crossed, on our knees and pray to the big man that someone else has a bit of misfortune on the day.
“They (the players) are very disappointed of course they are, because for the first time in significant amount of time they are 8th and they don’t want to be 8th.”
From relegation fighters to play-off hopefuls, Sarll says that no matter what happens, it has been a good season for the football club and the future is very bright.
“To be in the last game of the season and still be fighting for this, it is a fabulous achievement by all those players and the staff.
“What we have done and what we must all remember, supporters, everyone in the football club, is we have changed the expectations and standards of the football club in 12 months.
"Whatever we do, it has laid a terrific foundation for a League One campaign or a League Two campaign next year.”
