Two new coaching additions as Dan Barnes promoted to Fitness Coach
Manager Graham Westley has announced two new faces in his management team ahead of the new season.
Former England goalkeeper Dave Beasant will join Boro in 2014/15 as Goalkeeping Coach, but Westley has revealed that he expects Beasant's role to evolve.
He told us, "Dave enjoyed a fantastic playing career and has already undertaken some important coaching roles at both club and international levels.
"My feeling is that he will be much more than a goalkeeping coach here. But we will let things evolve one step at a time.
"He is a grounded guy, a tremendously experienced man and a fabulous professional. The players will benefit no end from his guidance."
Beasant will have the opportunity to work with his son Sam at Boro after the former Woking keeper signed earlier in the summer.
Westley continued, "It's a nice touch that Dave will be able to help Sam along, but that isn't what this is about. It's about adding a former England international to my management team to expand the standard of
thinking that supports the players. Dave is experienced in coaching on-field players as well as goalkeepers and his role will be wide.
"I expect Sam to be our number 1. I brought him here because of the performances that I watched him deliver last season when I tracked him extensively. But he will have to deliver the goods because Chris Day isn't going to sit back and give him the shirt. If I didn't think that Dave could handle that situation with ease then I wouldn't have considered this.
"But from the moment Dave and I met watching a game at Boreham Wood last season, we shared a chemistry and I loved his enthusiasm and ambition in coaching. He has been a long standing target of mine."
"The on-field team will be radically different this season and this will not be the only addition to my coaching staff either."
Also joining will be Dan Barnes, who steps up from working with the Club's Academy to become the first team Fitness Coach. His MSc in Strength and Conditioning positions him to help our players to achieve peaks of fitness that will enable us to lead the way in the physical stakes.
Westley added, "Dan has earned rave reviews and I am delighted to promote him back into a first team role after his previous work at Brentford."
