WESTLEY ON DAGENHAM WIN: A STRONG ENOUGH AWAY PERFORMANCE

26 December 2014

Manager Graham Westley said today's 2-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge was a sign of his team evolving as a unit.

He told Boro Player, "The back five were much more organised than they’ve been. It’s nice that we’ve got players like Jerome back from injury and Darius is settling in there alongside Wellsy and Ronnie we know what he’s all about. When you’ve got a base you’ve got a platform and the boys in front of it can develop your game.

"I thought we did ok today. It was a strong enough away performance. It wasn’t outstanding, it wasn’t brilliant but it was resilient and organised and we did enough damage to them in the vital moments.

"The players are starting to understand each other. It’s often put up as excuses when you’re talking about a newness to the team, players not knowing each other, partnerships not knowing each other, back fours not knowing the way you want them to play but reasons and excuses are very close cousins in football.

"We know what we need to build upon. We’re looking fitter, we’re looking stronger - those are the things we’ve really focused on. The togetherness of the team and the camp is growing and I think you can see that something is building here once more."
