The morning after defeat to Coventry, attention switched immediately to Port Vale where a win could see Stevenage move out of the relegation places. It’s been a busy week at the club with two new loan signings already announced and GW commented on the arrival of Henderson and Flanagan.
“Connor gives me a little bit more strength in the midfield area to cover him (Doughty) and Tom’s a good, young centre half who’s experienced in League 1 and those two are done and within the squad now for the rest of the season.”
Despite the obvious disappointment that Wednesday night’s loss had on the club, GW was keen to stress that there’s still all to play for.
“I’m not concerned about our form; I think our performance level has been OK on the whole. I think that sometimes you don’t get the rub of the green in any game but over the last eight games we’ve won enough points to push ourselves from having a nine point deficit to having a two point deficit. So, we’re in the shake-up now - which we weren’t eight games ago - and what we’ve got to do over the next eight games is do a similar or slightly better amount of work and we’ll be safe.
“There’s no great panic, it’s not a question of putting ourselves under ludicrous pressure.
“The job that everybody’s focused on this morning is shaking ourselves down and getting ourselves in the right frame of mind to go and win the points against Port Vale at the weekend.
“We’ll go into the game at the weekend believing we can win it. I’ve watched them play recently; they’ve got enough about them. I’m sure they’ll want to bounce back from a really heavy defeat on Tuesday so they’ll be focused I’m sure.
“We won’t go into a game until between now and the end of the season that we can’t win and every game is going to be up to us on the day to win.”
