With victory against Carlisle meaning a confirmed place in the play-offs, GW says the only focus is on improving every aspect of play across the team to ensure Boro end up where they want to be.
“We are hoping that there are five games left in our season, we are focused on doing everything we can to make that happen. It is just about sustaining a winning way. We have seven wins, seven draws and a defeat in 15 which is much better; we know we have got to do better than that again.
“We are just focused on improving where we are at. Focused on improving our defending, improving our attacking, improving our sets, improving our speed of transition, trying to get ourselves physically and mentally into better condition.”
When asked about whether he detects nerves within the camp, GW admits that although they are natural, to succeed you have to be able to control your emotions.
“Nerves are present in every human being. It is about controlling your energy so that you are in the right frame of mind to go and do the job and succeed. Of course there are all the human emotions and factors in any situation but you don’t win by letting the human factors get the better of you, you win by controlling those factors and making sure you take advantage of your best performance.”
Stevenage are the fifth highest scorers in the league to date and with no one player bearing the brunt of goal-scoring responsibility, GW says it makes us a tough team to work out.
“There has been a lot of goals scored in our games, too many have gone into our net across the season although we have improved our defensive record in the latter stages.
“We always try and score goals, of course. What makes us really tough is the fact that you haven’t got a clue where our goals are coming from because they come from right the way through the side. We haven’t got a double figure scorer. To be where we are in terms of goals scored, but not have a double figure scorer is typical of my teams, if I am frank.
“It is one of the difficulties in playing against my teams, when you try to work what their strengths are, you look down the goal scoring list and everybody scores. So where you start in stopping us score becomes difficult and I like it that way because it makes us a much more difficult proposition to get your head round.”
