GW: WE'RE CONFIDENT WE WILL KEEP GETTING BETTER

1 January 2015

After 3 wins on the spin, Boro head into the New Year in high spirits as the team turned in their best run of form just as the first half of the season came to a close.

Ahead of the trip to Morecambe on Saturday, the gaffer reflected on the season so far and talks about how we can improve in 2015.

“Half-way through the season our 10th placed position is a pretty fair reflection of what we have been so far. Namely, we have struggled to come together as a new team with injury disruption at the heart of our problems and fitness deficits being a consequence of that disruption. Let’s not hide from it; we have largely fallen short of the standards set by the teams above us because of these things.

“We took just 10 points from the 9 games against teams above us in the first round of games, with 24 of our points coming from 13 games against teams below us.

“If we keep growing our fitness levels; if we keep developing our organisation; if we keep adding detail to our game; if we keep improving our ball retention; and if we keep building our competitive spirit, all of which we have been doing, then we can realistically expect to win a lot more points from both groups of games in the return matches. Certainly, we are confident that we will keep getting better.

“It’s going to remain a 'one game at a time' exercise and as we move into the New Year we are just thinking about the best way of giving ourselves the best opportunity of winning 3 points this Saturday.

“3 points, 4 straight wins and then a home game; that would make for a perfect platform.”
