BORO SWOOP FOR TRANMERE STAR

2 August 2012

Stevenage have completed the signing of Lucas Akins from Tranmere Rovers for an undisclosed fee on a three year deal.

The exciting wide man, 23, has long been admired by manager Gary Smith who stated that he was delighted to clinch the deal.

“It’s a great signing for us; he’s an athletic player and adds some versatility to our squad which is important.”

He continued “He’s got a bright future ahead of him and he’s already playing some exceptional football, we saw that last season. He’ll bring a lot to our team, things which I felt were important to add, and I’m excited at the prospect of having him in our line up.”

Akins, known for his strong yet pacey play, began his career with Huddersfield Town’s youth academy and in 2007 he was awarded a full time contract with the club. After a loan spell with Northwich Victoria he opted for a permanent move north of the border with Hamilton Academical and also spent time with Partick Thistle.

In 2010 he joined Tranmere Rovers and in two years has made 87 appearances, following the end of last season the Superwhites took up the option on his contract however after stating his desire to move to Stevenage the move was agreed.
