Stevenage overcame Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park to continue their strong start to the season.

Lucas Akins scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after 'keeper Alex Cisak felled striker Marcus Haber in the box. The referee had no choice but to award the spot kick and the former Tranmere Rovers man, fresh from his winner against Leyton Orient last Tuesday, made no mistake in breaking the deadlock.

Chances were few and far between throughout the tie, which was affected by heavy rain that had made casualties of other matches around the country, however strong defending ensured a second clean sheet in a week for Gary Smith's side.

Next up for Stevenage is the visit of Premier League side Southampton on Tuesday evening in the Capital One Cup Second Round. Tickets are currently available online, simply click here now to get yours!
