OVERSEAS? JUST DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER YOUR SUPPORT FOR STEVENAGE

24 August 2015

Find out where Don Cowan's shirt is currently hanging...

There’s only a couple of days left for fans around the world to register their support for us at www.representyourclub.com and in doing so enter a prize draw to win a trip to the UK to see us play!

One Stevenage fan to sign himself up to the Football League's 'Stand Up & Be Counted' campaign is Nick Willson. The 32-year old currently works for EA Sports in Cologne, Germany and now shows his support for Boro from a distance, as he explains...

How long have you supported Stevenage for and how did that start?
Since I was 11.  I was born and lived in Stevenage for most of my life - I think it actually started when The Comet gave away free entry vouchers in the paper for kids.  Me and my mate went round the local flats and took all the Comets so we had free entry for the rest of the season! I hope that's OK to admit 20 years on.

How do you keep in touch with events at Stevenage FC?
Twitter, Facebook and talking to friends back home, but mostly via fans forum Borochat.  The BoroPlayer subscription allows me to enjoy Steve and Deano's excellent matchday commentary online too. They show live Championship games out here on TV but it hasn't extended to League Two just yet!

How do you show your support for Stevenage there?
Don Cowan's jersey from last season hangs proudly in our office.  We have a section where famous shirts from around the world hang up and the Stevenage one is the only English one hanging up there!

Do you talk about Stevenage FC with others?
Far too much probably! Our office is football related of course and each person here supports a different team from all over the world. I'm slowly trying to convince people that we're the biggest club in England but I'm not sure it's working unfortunately. We're definitely more well known about than your average League One or League Two club now though.

Have you been to watch Stevenage FC?
Hundreds of times.  I only moved away from Stevenage in January this year so I was going to every home game and as many away games as possible each season. It's been tough not being able to go as often although I still managed a few post-January and am back for three games this month, so I don't have it as bad as some overseas fans for sure.

The Football League’s ‘Stand Up & Be Counted’ is a campaign launched to engage with the global fan base of the 72 League clubs. Over 50,000 fans have already entered and helped place their team on the map.  It is free to register with all those who do being entered into the prize draw. The site features a dedicated page for each club, along with an interactive map showing where in the world fans have registered from.  The top three countries with the most sign-ups are Australia, the United States and Italy.

To be in with a chance of winning the prize register at www.representyourclub.com before the competition closes on 26th August.
