Coming off a heavy defeat the previous weekend, Parrett says that the team were ready to bounce-back.
“We knew that we had to get back on the training ground and make sure that we were extra focused this week and I think the boys put in a great performance.
“When we spoke about the game before we said we had to stick together out there and do everything together.
“It felt like whenever we pressed, someone was behind us. If we were dropping off, we would all drop off together and let them come and then press together.
“That is what we were working on in training and it worked very well.”
Parrett looked back to his best to help Boro into the Second Round, capping off the win with an unselfish assist in the final moments of the game.
“Originally when I knocked it past, Gnando was going to get it and I remember saying ‘get out the way’ because I wanted to go and score.
“Then the keeper came out and it was just a split decision (to lay it off for Gnanduillet to score an open goal).
“I thought, if we take the third one here with an easy goal, there is no coming back. If I miss then they could go down the other end and the last five minutes are a bit nervy if they nick a goal so I would rather go 3-0 up and set someone up than miss one.”
The Second Round draw is at 7pm tonight and both the players and management have all stated they don't mind who they are drawn against – they just want to be at home.
In more pressing matters, Boro travel to Yeovil on Saturday in a game that Dean Parrett described as “massive”.
“It is a huge game but we will take a lot of confidence from the game on Saturday. We have shown we can do it against some of the best teams on a few occasions this season but now it is time for us to do it against a team lower down in the league.
“Obviously it is a massive game and we need to make sure we keep them below us.
“This time last year we started to kick-on and I think we can do it again. Obviously we have had a lot of change in the summer, both players and management so it has taken a bit of time and we haven’t been at our best this year.
“It would be nice to get back to back wins and it could be the springboard we are after.”
