ANDY BOND: "EVERYONE HAS JUST GELLED TOGETHER"

24 July 2014

Summer arrival Andy Bond took time before training this morning to speak about his first few weeks at Stevenage and how pre-season preparations are getting on.

He told us, “It’s been a really enjoyable first few weeks at the club. We started a fortnight ago with a whole group of new lads and we’ve all got on. As soon as we’ve come in everyone has just gelled together which is really good. That seems to be showing on the training ground and out on the pitch too where we’ve been playing well.

"The gaffer’s brought experienced lads in as well as young lads who will be able to learn from the older players, so there’s a nice blend within the squad.

"He wants us to win every game which is understandable, and then take it into the league. It’s also about getting through the pre-season games without any injuries as you can get so many niggles, knocks and a lot of this and that. But if we get players through it, getting minutes under our belts, then when the season comes we can hit it well and be up and running.

"Every player sets themselves goals and targets. I prefer to keep mine to myself as if I don’t hit them I’ll be disappointed. Strikers want goals, midfielders want goals, defenders want clean sheets - personally I just want to be playing. If I’m on the field I’ll give it my all until I can’t run anymore, hopefully chip in with a few goals and we’ll see where we go from there."

Two of the pre-season games have of course been at The Lamex Stadium and Andy spoke of his first two matches in front of his new home supporters.

“It’s been good to play in front of our own fans in those two big games. A lot turned up against West Ham and the same again with Millwall. Hopefully they will turn out in their numbers during the season and we can produce what we say we’re going to do on the pitch.”

Want to show your support on the pitch as well as off it? If so then you might be interested to know that you can still sponsor Andy Bond for the forthcoming 2014/15 season. For more details on this and other available player sponsorship packages, please contact Clive Abrey on 01438 223223.
