Despite defeat last time out to Dagenham, captain Ronnie Henry is looking forward to Monday night’s game at Burton and says the team is feeling positive ahead of the game.
“Every week is difficult, as you can see. Dagenham came to us at the weekend, everyone probably expected us to win and they have turned us over. We weren’t on our game and it is no different Monday night, if they are not on their game then we will be getting three points.
“We have been preparing right here in training, the lads are still upbeat and they know we have got a long way to go still. We are positive and we will go there and give it our best shot. We will be confident.”
When asked about what characteristics the squad need to show at this stage of the season, Henry says the lads need to show they want it more than the opposition each week.
“We need to be hungry. We need to be hungrier than the other team and we need to show our quality and confidence that we know we have got, because when we play well as a side we are good to watch and we are effective in the way we play.
“The eleven that go out there and the subs that contribute need to give everything they have got because there is not long left now.
"We need to not look too far ahead - we need to look at Monday's game, take that first and get three points there."
The current squad is a good mix of youth and experience, with many of the senior players having already achieved promotion throughout their careers. Ronnie says it is up to the experienced players like him to lead the youngsters through the final games of the season.
“It is up to us. We either go on holiday early or we carry on and achieve something together. I am sure all of them in there want to be playing in League One next year to have a shot at that – I certainly do. When I left the club it was in League One and I want to get back there.
“I know what it is like to go up through the play-offs, I know what it is like to win the league – it is a great achievement and something I really want again. I will be trying to tell the lads in there, I am sure they know – that they want success early in their careers because it can only help you as you get older.”
