STEVENAGE V CAMBRIDGE - ALWAYS ENTERTAINING...

26 December 2014

Stevenage welcome Cambridge United to The Lamex Stadium on Sunday (3pm) in what promises to be another entertaining meeting between the two sides and we need YOU there to help cheer the boys on as they sign off 2014.

In 14 previous meetings there have been 43 goals, with Stevenage particularly impressive at The Lamex Stadium where they’ve won six out of seven games, scoring 19 goals along the way.

Who could forget the 4-1 win back in January 2010, the last time the two sides met? Goals from Lee Boylan (2), Yemi Odubade and Chris Beardsley saw a commanding win as Boro rose to the top of the Blue Square Premier in front of 3,406 fans.

Or the 3-1 playoff semi-final first leg win with 10 men in April 2009? Mark Roberts and a brace for Steve Morison did the damage as Stevenage recovered from having Darren Murphy sent off to record an impressive win. (We won’t talk about the second leg, however...)

Then there’s the first home meeting between the two teams way back in December 1997, when an own goal and a strike from Stuart Beevor saw Stevenage win 2-1 in an FA Cup second round replay in front of 4,866.

With Stevenage looking to make it three wins on the bounce after back-to-back victories against Exeter and Dagenham, and Cambridge looking to bounce back from a run of three league games without a victory, the game is finely poised. With it being the festive period it’s bound to add that something special to the fixture.
