TEDDY DELIGHTED WITH WYCOMBE WIN

17 October 2015

Teddy Sheringham says he is proud of his players after beating Wycombe 2-1 at the Lamex thanks to a bizarre goal from Jesse Joronen and a second half header from Armand Gnanduillet.

The gaffer praised his players for finding a way to win after Wycombe got a late goal back in the game.

“There is different ways to win a football match, today we had to really dig in, grind and make sure we held firm. I was delighted with the way we did.

“We got ourselves in front by a little bit of luck and then further in front with a very well worked goal but still we had to hang on into the last couple of minutes and defend for our lives.”

The gaffer responded to whether or not he had seen a goalkeeper score from his own half before.

“There has been a few over the years. I didn’t think it was windy or skiddy enough to do it today but it just catches people out sometimes and we are delighted for a little bit of luck like that.”

Making his second appearance for the club, Gnanduillet scored off a well taken corner and Teddy says with the set-piece takers we have got, we will always be dangerous.

“We have got boys that can put the balls in decent areas, both the right and left – it is all about getting on the end of them. I said at half-time, that is where it will probably be won or lost and for him to put us two up was very pleasing and then we had to hold firm at the end.

“We definitely defended very, very well.

“I was very proud of all the back four, the goalkeeper stood firm and we had to battle it out. I can’t pick any names out.”
