Teddy Sheringham knows Saturday’s game against Barnet is a big one for the football club as local rivals collide with only five points between the two teams.
The boss says it is a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.
“It is massive. Local derbies always add a bit of spice and we need to get our season back on track. There is no better way to do it than at home against local rivals.
“We need to get our thoughts right now to change our losing run into points, whether that be draws or wins. Obviously we are playing at home and we will be going for the win on Saturday.”
Having become a key first team player this season, the news of Michael Tonge's new deal with the club gave everybody a lift earlier in the week and Teddy praised both the player and signing.
“I think it is a fantastic signing for the football club, without a doubt. He is a top professional, conducts himself very professionally in everything he does. No airs and graces even though he has played at a much higher level than where we are at now.
“He is one of the lads, he talks, understands, listens, has still got the enthusiasm of an 18 year old, still in front in all the running, wants to keep fit, wants to get better – that will do for me.”
Last week we announced the loan signing of Aaron O’Connor to the club and the manager says he has been impressed by what he has seen so far.
He also didn't rule out the possibility of keeping the striker beyond the initial month's loan.
“If you can get the experience with that zest and enthusiasm, then even better. He has definitely come in and shown that. He hadn’t played for a couple of weeks before Saturday’s game but he put himself about nicely. Had one chance in the game but I thought he did well on his debut in a tough game.
"I have enjoyed watching him this week, he has got good movement in and around the box and he knows where the goal is. I have had good feedback from other managers that have worked with him, not just as a player but as a lad and a character. Again, I am delighted to have him here for this month and hopefully we will get him for longer as long as he proves good for us."
The gaffer also warns that there is business still to be done before the end of the month. (Editor's note - Luke Wilkinson has today joined from Luton Town.)
“The window is still open. We will be keeping our ears and eyes open and looking around. I am sure there will be people looking at our players as well so there might be one or two bits of movement.
“We have enquired about a few different players this week – that is ongoing and all I can say on that one.”
