TEDDY: PORTSMOUTH GAME NOT ONE WE SHOULD BE SCARED OF

19 October 2015

Stevenage manager, Teddy Sheringham reflected on Saturday’s win against Wycombe by saying that he thought that the team deserved the three points and that there were plenty of positives to take out of the game.

“A hard earned victory, you have to fight for every point. I felt we were good on Saturday, still not great but when you look at who we were playing against and how they make you play, I thought there were a lot of positives to take out of that.

“The fact that we dug in with ten minutes to go and didn’t concede a second one, even though they had a decent chance to get the second goal, I felt on the whole we were deserved victors.”

The gaffer says that the last two results have been extra satisfying after identifying and working on certain things during the five game losing streak that has now been firmly put to bed.

“I think when you get bad results it makes you analyse yourself.

“Obviously everybody else is analysing us as well and we are going to do that even more deeply than everybody else because it means a lot to us.

“The fact that we identified a few things that we had to work on to make our team better, it is nice that you get rewards for it.”

Teddy was quick to stress though that you are only as good as your last result and tomorrow’s visit to Portsmouth is not one the team should be scared of.

“We have got a good result, we need to go on and get another good result or it means nothing. You just want to go on and build bigger bricks than what you started with and that is what we will be planning to do.

“It is not a game that we should be scared of. We are playing OK at the moment; we can be better but if we impose ourselves on Portsmouth then there is no reason why we can’t get a result down there. “
