Stevenage lost 1-0 to Millwall in the second home pre-season friendly of the season after Beevers’ close range effort in the second half was enough to seal the win.
Teddy Sheringham has had to contend with a whole raft of injuries to the squad already, but the gaffer is delighted with how well the young players have done in the absence of many senior pros.
“That is going to happen (injuries) throughout the season and it is great that they come in and the youngsters get a chance. If anything, I have been very impressed by the youngsters so long may it continue.”
With the season only two weeks away, Teddy says that fitness levels are improving and that is what really counts during pre-season.
“That is the main thing, if we come and win this game 3-0 it doesn’t really matter. We lost 1-0, we need to learn from it. We are getting our fitness and that is what it is all about.
“We are working towards the first game of the season, I understand it wasn’t pretty out there today but that is why we need to work on it.”
Teddy remains positive ahead of the season and says that although new signings are needed, there is still plenty of time to work on the training ground in order to improve performance levels.
“We definitely still need a couple of players to come in; I have still been impressed with the players. I am not too down hearted; it wasn’t great for us today but let’s not get too doom and gloom.
“We lost 1-0 and we lost convincingly 1-0, we know that but we know we have got work to do, so that is what we will do.”
