TEDDY: WE ARE ON A NICE LITTLE RUN AT THE MOMENT

28 November 2015

Teddy Sheringham hailed his team after the 4-3 win over Morecambe, saying that the first half in particular was as good as we have played all season.

Boro ended the half 2-1 up, despite missing two penalties and the boss said the game should have been wrapped up.

“I think that was probably the best 45 minutes we have played this season, in the first half.

“We wanted to get on the front-foot and that’s exactly what we did. I thought everyone to a man was exceptional in the first 45 minutes and you are right, we should have put them out of sight.

“2-1 up, two penalties, countless more penalty box threats – it could have been 3, 4, 5 in the first half and there wouldn’t have been any complains I don’t think, that is how good we were.

“There was a lot of good play all round; we had a good manner about us.”

Despite the win, Morecambe scored a couple of consolation goals in the final ten minutes which made for a nervy finish.

Teddy says that the players were disappointed with the way the game ended but it shouldn’t deflect away from the result and performance.

“It seems like we have lost something by the way we finished the game in the last ten minutes – that is the feeling in the dressing room. There were a little bit of words in there and a little bit of down-feeling but we got three points and that is what we came here to do today.

“All said and done, three points and a 4-3 result for us is a fantastic achievement and we are on a nice little run at the moment.”

The afternoon’s stand-out player was Chris Whelpdale – three goals on the day means he has scored 7 in his last 9 games and Teddy was full of praise for the winger.

“I have mentioned him quite a bit recently over the last 6, 7, 8 weeks, I think he has been fantastic. He is in a rich vein of scoring goals to get a hat-trick today, could have had four with the penalty as well.

“Delighted for him, I said earlier in the week that he keeps putting himself into the position to score goals, he keeps taking on those opportunities.”
