SIX TOP HOME FIXTURES TO GET EXCITED ABOUT

22 June 2016

It's Fixture Release Day today and with Stevenage's new Sky Bet League 2 schedule out, we'e picked out six top home fixtures to get excited about.

Luton Town - Saturday 20th August
Stevenage welcome the Hatters to The Lamex Stadium in the second home game of the season in what has proved a highly competitive fixture in recent years. Last season saw a fiercely fought yet goalless draw at home, with Michael Tonge scoring a penalty in an excellent 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road in early April in the reverse fixture (see below). Backed by a large support, this is bound to be one of Boro's biggest gates of the season.

Blackpool - Saturday 10th December
Relegated from League 1 last season, Blackpool will feature in the bottom tier of English professional football for the first time in 15 years. With Gary Bowyer appointed manager last month, Blackpool fans will be hoping for an improved season on the pitch but will face tricky trips to a number of new stadiums Being a weekend fixture should also see a good away following visiting The Lamex for the first time.

Cambridge United - Monday 26th December
The U's make the short trip to Stevenage on Boxing Day looking to improve a poor away record at Boro. Previous meetings between these two sides certainly favour the home team with Stevenage winning the last five against our amber opponents, scoring 14 goals in the process and conceding just five. That includes last year's 2-0 home win below.

Colchester United - Saturday 31st December
Ask a Stevenage fan about games v Colchester and many will refer back to Boro's thumping 6-1 away win in December 2011 (see below). However no wins in the five meetingssince, including defeats in the last two meetings at The Lamex means there is work to be done against the U's in what will prove a popular festive fixture for both home and away fans.

Grimsby Town - Saturday 28th January
This will be Grimsby's first ever trip to sunny Stevenage as the two teams have never previously met. Recent history, including our own, shows that teams promoted into League 2 tend to perform well and by the time the Mariners visit in late January, we predict they'll firmly have their feet under the table and be looking to push up the table. Backed by a decent following from Lincolnshire, this is bound to be an intriguing fixture.

Portsmouth - Saturday 18th March
Defeat in last season's playoffs confined Portsmouth to another season in League 2 and they visit The Lamex Stadium on in late March. Games against Pompey always result in a big crowd, a lively atmosphere and some great goals, with Boro winning three of the last four against their more illustrious opponents.
