Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace today said that the club have been inundated with applications for the vacant management posts.
"They started coming in as soon as the speculation started last weekend" said Wallace "we're now sorting them into a select group for interviews and I'd expect us to start seeing prospective candidates this week. The list is impressive and I'm looking forward to the prospect of appointing a new management team again. Time is not my concern - finding the person that best fits the structure we have spent 3 years creating is my only driver for this appointment. Next week will be easier for us all - the lads know their routines and our fitness coach has chosen to remain with us, so it's business as usual on Monday."
He continued "During the process last week our fans were understandably frustrated with the lack of news after the approach was made and we shared their frustration, but for days there was simply nothing to report. In the end we've secured the deal we wanted and included within that Agreement is a covenant that none of our players can be contacted by anyone at Preston until after the season has ended. Fundamentally we are not a selling club anyway - we have no need of transfer funds to remain solvent and I prefer to build, improve and invest into our team over time - not weaken it - so unless an approach for one of our players would give them a life changing income from a huge club at a higher level, we will ignore any approaches for any of our lads and continue to focus on winning games and moving up the football pyramid. The result at Rochdale was an exciting lift to us all. After a week of daily uncertainty at the training ground, the lads showed a togetherness and spirit when it counted that you can only stand back and admire. They never cease to amaze and made me proud to be part of our Club"
