Stevenage FC have confirmed that Mark Newson has today accepted the role of Assistant Manager/Coach.
He becomes the first addition to new manager Gary Smith's backroom staff after the MLS Cup winning coach was confirmed as the new Stevenage boss earlier today (Wednesday).
London born 'Noose' is an A-Licence coach who has demonstrated leadership qualities throughout his playing career. He was signed in the early 90's from non league Maidstone United by Harry Redknapp and captained his Bournemouth side for 3 years, making almost 200 appearances for the Cherries, later moving to Fulham where he again captained the side and made over 100 appearances. Towards the end of his career he played at Barnet with Gary Smith, scoring 3 times for the Bees.
His coaching career covers spells at West Ham United and, most recently, Crystal Palace.
