SMITH EXPECTING TOUGH GAME

6 December 2012

Boro Player spoke to manager Gary Smith ahead of this weekend's game at Hartlepool United and he is anticipating another tough tie.

First speaking about the sad loss of former player Mitchell Cole, who passed away on Saturday, Smith described the news as 'absolutely dreadful', adding "When anybody of such a young age passes away, especially with a young family, it's dreadful." Gary spoke further about the tragic news, and this is available in a separate interview on Player.

Boro's last league game was the home draw with Tranmere Rovers and reflecting on that tie, Smith said "We worked the ball well. Early on it was a little more direct to get on the front foot and get at them but I think everyone has to look at the meat of the game where both teams

On Saturday's trip to Victoria Park, Smith told us "Honestly, I don't think there is an easy game in this league. They range from tough to really tough! Their aren't any easy ones - you travel the full length of the country to play a team with a new manager, and fighting for their lives, that's not easy."

He said that it "is a matter of getting your mind in gear, your body ready" and continued "hopefully it will add to some really good away results and some good away form."
