BORO BRING IN CANADIAN STRIKER

5 July 2012

Stevenage FC have completed the signing of Canadian International forward Marcus Haber from St Johnstone on a two year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 23 year old grew up in Vancouver and in 2009 he joined Vancouver Whitecaps. Haber received 'Newcomer of the Year' and 'Fan's Favourite' awards with his club and 'Rookie of the Year' in the division.

The pacey striker's success paved way for a move to England and in January 2010 Championship side West Bromwich Albion paid an undisclosed fee for his services. With first team chances limited he opted for a one-month loan move to Exeter City before returning to Vancouver on a two month loan deal. The Baggies secured a Premier League place for the following season and cited the chance for first team football as a reason for the season-long loan to SPL side St Johnstone that followed. He scored twice before suffering a knee injury that required surgery and was subsequently released by his parent club at the end of the season, only to be snapped up by The Saints on a permanent basis. He helped the side to a Europa league qualification place last season.

His club career has run alongside international call ups; between 2005 and 2008 he represented his country from U15 to U23 Olympic level, making over 30 appearances and scoring 5 times before a call up to the first team in 2010. On his debut the side drew 2-2 with Ukraine and he has since pulled on his national shirt three times.
