INJURY COMEBACKS CLOSE AFTER FRIENDLY

14 November 2012

Stevenage today took on Southend United in a behind-closed-doors friendly which gave a selection of Gary Smith's players some much needed game time as they look to push on a first team place, and continue their own returns from injury.

Lee Hills and Andy Iro both starred for the Mark Newson led side in defence, whilst Robbie Rogers, Miguel Comminges and Don Cowan all took further steps in their comebacks as they played their parts in the game which finished in a 1-1 draw. Chris Day, Robin Shroot - captain in the second half, Matt Ball and Michael Thalassitis also appeared for the Boro.

The fixture also gave an opportunity for both sides to mix in some youth level players, with George Allen starting the game and Spencer McCall, Jhai Dhillon, Joe N’Guessan and Charlie Horlock also featuring.

Earlier this week Mark Newson spoke about the importance of depth in a squad at this stage in the season, with injuries and bans for five yellow cards all playing a part in the crucial stage that leads into the new year. With no fresh injury worries coming out of the game the management staff will surely be pleased with the afternoon’s work.
