NEWSON TALKS TO BORO PLAYER

14 November 2012

Boro Player spoke to Mark Newson today, who gave us an update on how things are going so far this season and how the squad are looking at the training ground.

In a chat about how the campaign is progressing he told us “I think it’s going reasonably well, third position in the league is tremendous and we’ve had a good start, we’ve had a few hiccups recently but on the whole it’s going okay. When you think of the clubs that are up there, the big clubs with the big budgets, where we are at the moment is well above expectations.

“When you’re carrying a small squad like ourselves it’s difficult but to be where we are at the moment in third place after this amount of games is a tremendous start.”

Speaking further about squad size, and how a budget can affect the depth of research into a player, Noose said “I know clubs who are on budgets of 6million a year compared to us and they can afford to take a gamble, we can’t. We’ve got to do our homework and be spot on with the players that come in.”

Since coming to the club early in 2012 Newson has often praised the home support for the noise that they make from the stands. After two losses on the bounce at home the assistant manager is asking that the fans keep that up and continue to get behind the team as we all push together for a successful campaign.

“We’re asking the supporters to be a little bit more patient; we’re third in the table and we’ve done tremendously well, if we do get the odd iffy result, we’re trying as much as we can and we’re working as hard as we can and if we can come out of Christmas in the top six then we’ve had a great start.”
