SMITH WANTS IMPROVEMENTS AT HOME

10 November 2012

Boro Player spoke to Gary Smith after Saturday’s disappointing defeat at the Lamex Stadium and he gave an honest and frank look at the performance.

The manager told us “For some reason we’re not getting it done here. It certainly doesn’t help when the first goal is scored very quickly – I thought we actually started quite brightly in the 4-4-2 shape and I thought it looked quite good for us at home but we were unable to clear our lines again and a good finish from the centre forward was avoidable.

“We get ourselves back into the game with a wonderful strike from Greg [Tansey] but the second goal again [could be avoided]. Bondz [N’Gala] has a clean header to win, he squirms it inside and from that point Greg gets undone completely by the winger down in the right back spot. It’s disappointing to go in 2-1 down but I certainly felt as though there were enough positives in that first half to come out in the second and really make a game of it. We didn’t mount anywhere near enough pressure.”

He described the third goal as “very avoidable” and conceded “we have not found the right combination at home yet” before continuing “my main focus is to make sure that the team continues to develop and that we find a remedy for our home form, because it’s not good enough.”
