YOUTH TEAM PROGRESS IN STYLE

17 November 2012

Stevenage’s youth side put in a sterling display at the Stadium:MK to run out clear winners and progress to the FA Youth Cup Third Round.

Next up is Premier League side Wigan Athletic at home after a magnificent attacking display yielded six goals against MK Don. Amazingly it was the second time this season that a match between the two sides finished with a 6-2 scoreline, and both times it was Darren Sarll’s side on the right end of the result.

The away side went in 2-1 up at the break, fresh from a hat trick in the first round Fejiri Okenabirhie got the first and Jo N’Guessan the second.

Into the second half and the Boro side dominated proceedings; before long N’Guessan had his second of the game.  The Dons pulled one back but rather than succumb to nerves Stevenage pushed on. The two goal cushion was reinstated when Spencer McCall netted and Ryan Towner put it beyond doubt minutes later.

Before full time there was still chance for one more with Brandon Dujon converting his side’s sixth to ensure progression. It is the second time in two seasons that Boro have progressed to the Third Round, last season losing out to a last minute strike against Tottenham Hotspur.
