ROBERTS ENJOYING LIFE UNDER SMITH

8 October 2012

Mark Roberts spoke to Boro Player today, looking back on a decent three points at home on Saturday afternoon whilst also talking about how he is finding playing with his new team mates this season.

First talking about the slim victory over Scunthorpe United at the weekend, the captain told us that the side were looking to post back-to-back wins and continued “It’s the first time that we’ve collected two wins in a week since earlier on in the season against Leyton Orient and Oldham Athletic so we were looking to do that and were pleased when we did.”

Despite taking all three points from the game Mark and his team mates didn’t have it all their own way and it took a beautiful curled free kick from Greg Tansey to break the deadlock. Robbo is clearly pleased to have a man in the midfield that can hit a ball as sweetly as the former Inverness man and said he is already proving that it isn’t just luck.

“[It was] a fantastic strike from Tansey, it’s something that he has shown he is capable of on a number of occasions already this season. In the first half he had a great shot that just hit the bar and maybe if that had of gone in it might have been a different story.”

He continued “Teams will come here and set up in a certain way because we are towards the top of the table and it’s up to us to break them down. We kept on going and credit to the lads for that”

The changes in personnel in the summer are well documented and after such success with the former regime some may have been forgiven in thinking that things might change. Unbeaten in the league and in the highest position the club has ever sat in the Football League pyramid, those fears are long forgotten and Roberts is delighted with how things are going.

“I think the greatest thing is that you don’t actually feel like it’s a new team; on Tuesday I was playing alongside Darius [Charles] at centre half and it was just me and him in the starting eleven from last year’s squad. There’s been a lot of change but at the same time I think that the new lads have rallied around, we’ve got to know each other really quickly on and off the pitch and I think that’s shown in the results that we have managed to amass so far.”
