SMITH LOOKING FOR BIG CROWD!

25 October 2012

Boro Player spoke to manager Gary Smith on Thursday ahead of the home tie with Swindon Town that will see Halloween Madness come to the Lamex Stadium!

Stevenage are hoping that the local community will make their way down to the ground and are offering free entry to up to three Under 16s with every paying adult in our bid to build attendances at our home games, and Smith spoke to us about the importance of supporters at a game.

“The atmosphere on Tuesday night was absolutely fabulous, the Portsmouth fans played their part in it as they brought a good group of travelling fans but our home fans really got behind the side and I thought it was very noticeable that the side responded to that. Of course those evening games are different but there was a real sharpness and energy about the whole night whether it as on the field or off it and of course the more often we can replicate that the better it will be for the group.”

Speaking about the two victories that his side have had since the loss to Colchester United on October 13th the manager showed his delight with the reaction that his side have shown.

“I’m very pleased, it’s always difficult after a first defeat and you need to try and work out what the response will be when you have plenty of new players and new personalities in that group but I’m absolutely delighted that after a difficult encounter at Colchester, and our first loss on the board, that we’ve been able to come back with two good victories.

“The away result at MK is one that I don’t suspect will happen too often to MK. They’re a very good home side and a good footballing team; they’ve got a fantastic home record so we should be extremely pleased about those three points. The home fixture on Tuesday night against an in-form Portsmouth side; there’s lots of experience in that group. They’re a side that really belie where they are in the table and of course they had four wins out of the last five, it was a very hard fought game and again I was absolutely delighted to come away with all three points.
