SHROOT PLEASED WITH VICTORY

10 September 2012

Boro Player spoke to goal scorer Robin Shroot pitch side at the Ricoh Arena after Boro’s 2-1 win over Coventry City, and he was delighted to get on the score sheet and once again astounded by the travelling Stevenage fans.

In his usual positive nature Shroot was clearly pleased to have got all three points and thinks it’s a sign that the club can go even further than last season.  “We’re up to third, joint second, we are so capable of getting up there and staying up there and I don’t see why we can’t carry the run on and maintain a steady push for promotion.”

His goal came after the ‘keeper had parried a powerful Luke Freeman shot, Shroot was the first to pounce on the loose ball and it’s a trait that has been easy to see in his game so far this season.

“It’s an instinct to try and score, I want to score as many goals as I can because I love scoring – it’s the best thing in football. If you take gambles and you make a step before the situation has happened then more often than not you’ll get yourself in areas and where you can get half a chance.”

The midfielder was substituted at half time with an injury but it doesn’t look too serious and after the game he joked “I just had half of the centre-half’s boot in my shin from when he tackled me before the goal!”

Speaking about the Boro fans that made the journey, Shroot was full of praise; “The Boro fans are absolutely World Cup; I know it’s cheesy but you dream of scoring goals at a place like this and running and celebrating in front of your fans. The noise and support that they give us is absolutely superb.”
