SMITH LOOKS AHEAD TO DONCASTER

20 September 2012

Boro Player spoke to Gary Smith today, first looking back at Tuesday night’s victory over Walsall at the Lamex Stadium and then ahead to Doncaster this weekend.

On the midweek win Smith said, “I thought it was a good performance, a very competitive game. Walsall have started extremely well and have got plenty of new bodies and faces themselves but I thought our performance was worthy of the victory” before describing it as “an exciting evening” and a “good spectacle for the fans”.

Clearly delighted with the contribution that Miguel Comminges made on his debut, the gaffer said “Miguel came into the group and did a sterling job; it’s not easy because that back four has been pretty solid throughout the opening exchanges of the season but Miguel is a very genuine lad and I thought he showed some very good signs.”

On to Doncaster then and Gary is optimistic ahead of the tie with one of the relegated Championship sides from last season. A trip to the Keepmoat Stadium awaits and when asked if the victory over Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena proved that his side can deal with a big game occasion Smith replied “Doncaster are a strong side, physically they’re quite dominant and their home form has been very decent in the opening exchanges of the season.

“I think they’ll be looking to get themselves into quite a nice vein of form now and get themselves on a run so Saturday’s game is going to be extremely tough.”
