SMITH WANTS IMPROVEMENTS

29 September 2012

Boro Player spoke to Gary Smith after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bury at the Lamex Stadium and he was disappointed not to secure all three points.

In an honest look at his sides’ performances in the last two fixtures the manager said “At times when you feel as though we’re just going to see the game out, we’re not quite getting it right at the moment. Bagging all three points, not just last weekend but this weekend was certainly a possibility and when you look at the way that the games have unfolded, on both occasions we have been in front as there’s no doubt that there is enough quality both with and without the ball to see the games out but unfortunately it’s not quite going for us.”

Boro remain unbeaten in the league but have four draws from five games at home and Gary wants to see an improvement in that form.

“There seems to be a bit of a theme at home: we go behind and give ourselves real difficulty to get back into the game and today we’ve been able to really force the issue but I think that more importantly we need to work towards them clean sheets.”

He added that although his side are “delighted to keep the unbeaten run going, we’re going to see plenty of teams [in League One] that are in a position where you think they’ll get all three points when they don’t quite get it.”
