DUNNE: I THOUGHT "HE ISN'T PASSING!"

24 August 2013

Match winner James Dunne spoke to the official website this afternoon about today’s win and his goal.

“We’ve been training hard all week and we wanted to get that first win under our belts. It was a good solid performance and wasn’t just about a late goal. Up until then there was no real danger. Coming to a place like Notts County as well, a nice stadium, a hard team to beat at home, I thought we played well today and got the result.”

When asked to talk us through his goal he grinned and said, “When Shrooty was going through I thought ‘he isn't passing!' but I went with him and Shrooty knows when to pass sometimes and when not to. But he set me up, I took the shot, hit the post and it went in.  I had several shots today, couple of which were terrible weren’t they! No, I kept going and got my goal in the end.”

In terms of his role in the team today, James explained, “Today I was playing holding role in the first half. We started off well but then changed our shape as they were starting to get on top of us a bit. We started off well but they improved. Second half Hes (Simon Heslop) came on which allowed me to push up more. He’s played the holding role and allowed me and Michael were allowed to push forward.”

His final few words focused on Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup tie: “Obviously Everton are a big team. We want to push on from this performance and beat them.”
