GW: LADS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT

2 August 2013

Boro Player caught up with Graham Westley to gather his thoughts prior to Saturday's opening game of the season, with the manager saying it was nice to get down to real action:

"I know when I was pulling on my boots, going out in pre-season games just didn’t feel right. I scarcely scored in pre-season and then rarely didn’t score on the opening day. Something changes in you as a player come the opening day and I know the lads are really looking forward to it.

"Funnily enough we’re in the fortunate position where in our last two promotion seasons we didn’t win on the opening day. It takes the pressure off you, because you know that whatever you do on the opening day, the table come Saturday night will in no way reflect the  table at the end of the season.

"The opening day is but another three points. Every three points counts, of course it does, we want to win our three points like every club will, but you’ll see us go into the game in quite a relaxed fashion, really willing to enjoy the game.

"We’ll play to win, but really willing to enjoy the game. I don’t think we’ll be the overexcited type of team that underperforms. It’ll be a side that’s ready for the game, looks forward to it and will enjoy it and takes it in its stride."
