HESLOP: MUCH MORE TO COME

16 August 2013

Simon Heslop has been speaking briefly to the official website about the start to his Boro career, the first few games of the season…and breakfast at Bragbury End!

“I’ve settled in really well and I’m enjoying it,” said the 26-year old midfielder. “I felt like I needed a new challenge after my time at Oxford and it’s been really good here so far.”

“Whilst it’s a step up in divisions I don’t think there’s loads of difference between Leagues 1 and 2 to be honest. Obviously we’ve lost a couple of the first games but there’s so much more to come from us.”

Looking at the first three games of the season Simon commented, “We’re obviously disappointed with the start in the league. The first game was very uptight and frantic and was disappointing to lose as we were keen to do well. We lost at Swindon whilst the cup tie was different - it was a one-off game and we came through that on the night which was good."

“The second round tie against Everton is at the back of everyone’s mind. Saturday against Leyton Orient is the only thing we’re concentrating on and it’s important to get some points on the board and kick-start our season.

“I’ve not come up against Orient before but as a team we definitely know all about them, you can see the amount of information we have about them. All the lads are taking that in and we know a lot about them.”

Simon also spoke to us about breakfast at the Bragbury End training complex. He agreed that the lads coming in early in the morning really helps the squad to gel, whilst he also praised the work of the on-site chef:

“Chef is brilliant, he’s the first one in every morning before everybody and the food here is great. You can put in individual orders and I know some of the lads do that. But personally I just get on with tucking into what’s available before heading out onto the pitch for another day’s training.”
