LEAGUE 1 ROUND-UP

19 August 2013

Peterborough remain level on points with Leyton Orient at the top of League 1 after a 2-1 win at home to Oldham on Saturday.

Britt Assombalonga scored his third goal in three games and then won a second half penalty which Lee Tomlin converted to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Former Boro frontman Charlie MacDonald netted a late header to give the Latics hope and James Tarkowski then missed an open goal but Posh hung on.

Wolves continued their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a 2-1 win at Bristol City. Bakary Sako curled home a 25-yard free-kick to give the visitors the lad but Jay Emmanuel-Thomas equalised eight minutes after the break. Matt Doherty struck a late winner with a volley at the back post to send all three points back to the Black Country.

After two wins each from their first two games, Walsall and Colchester had to settle for a point each from their respective 1-1 draws against Notts County and Sheffield United. Meanwhile Brentford remain in fifth thanks to Farid El Alagui’s last-gasp equaliser away at Gillingham, for whom Adebayo Akinfenwa had opened the scoring

At the other end of the table Coventry thrashed Carlisle 4-0 at Brunton Park as they continue to erase their pre-season points deduction with a second straight win. The Sky Blues have won their two last games, scoring nine times in 180 minutes. The Cumbrians meanwhile have scored just one goal from their opening three games whilst conceding 13.

In the remaining fixtures, Steve Evans enjoyed a 2-1 come-from-behind win at former side Crawley as Rotherham picked up their first victory of the season. Elsewhere Crewe won 2-1 at home to Tranmere, Shrewsbury saw off Swindon 2-0, Port Vale beat Bradford 2-1 and Preston collected their third draw with a 2-2 home draw against MK Dons.
