LEAGUE 1 ROUND-UP

5 August 2013

Leyton Orient sit top of League 1 after the opening weekend following a comprehensive 5-1 win at Carlisle United.

Goals from Kevin Lisbie, Scott Cuthbert, David Mooney and Dean Cox (2) sealed an emphatic win against their Cumbrian hosts, who had Lee Miller sent off after half an hour and had just David Amoo’s 43rd minute penalty to show for their efforts.

The three teams relegated from the Championship last season endured mixed fortunes. Britt Assombalonga scored on his debut for Peterborough as Posh ran out 1-0 winners at home to Swindon. Wolves secured a point with a goalless draw at Preston whilst Bristol City conceded an 84th minute equaliser to draw 2-2 with newly promoted Bradford.

None of the teams promoted from League 2 could pick up a win on the opening day of the campaign. Andy Bond broke Gillingham’s hearts with an 89th minute goal to hand Colchester a 1-0 win at Priestfield, Port Vale picked up a point with a 1-1 draw at home to Brentford whilst Rotherham scored two late goals to secure an entertaining 3-3 draw at Crewe, for whom former Boro midfielder Anthony Grant scored on his debut.

The remaining fixtures in League 1 saw wins for Crawley over troubled Coventry (3-2), a goalless draw between Shrewsbury and MK Dons and a 3-1 win for Walsall at home to Tranmere.
