2013 REVIEW: APRIL

30 December 2013

We now turn our attention to April in our review of the past 12 months on and off the pitch at the club.

On the pitch:
The return of GW as manager proved no joke on April Fools Day as Boro ran out 1-0 winners against Hartlepool in his first game back. On-loan Max Ehmer scored the first goal of the gaffer’s third reign to hand Stevenage a vital three points.

A point at Portsmouth following a goalless draw was also decent but defeats to Yeovil, Swindon and MK Dons in the final three games of the campaign was an indication of the work which was required. Stevenage finished 18th in League One , six points above the relegation zone with 54 points.

Off the pitch:
James Dunne was named Supporters Association Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year after a series of excellent displays during his first season at the club. The 23 year old made 45 appearances in total and found the back of the net on six occasions.

Elsewhere that month a whole host of big names confirmed they would take part in the Mitchell Cole Benefit Game in May between a Stevenage XI and a Mitchell Cole XI. Amongst those were Steve Morison, then-Celtic striker Gary Hooper and a number of the successful 2007 FA Trophy Final squad including Mark Beard, Adam Miller and John Nutter
