2013 REVIEW: FEBRUARY

27 December 2013

Over these final few days of 2013 we’ll be looking back month-by-month at events on and off the pitch at the club during the past 12 months.

Next up it's February....

On the pitch:
February proved a tough month for Boro with six defeats in seven games and just the one victory during a busy few weeks. Home defeats to Leyton Orient and Oldham were compounded by losses at Carlisle, Brentford, Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe. Only a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Notts County brought cheer to the home faithful, with goals from Hoskins and Haber securing a vital three points.

Having made history by making it to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time, Boro's youth team were denied a place in round five after a 4-3 defeat at Barnsley. Jo N’Guessan, Rohdell Gordon and George Allen all scored for Boro but the Championship outfit won by the odd goal in seven during an entertaining game at Oakwell.

Off the pitch:
Mark Roberts was recognised for his extensive work in the club’s community by being shortlisted for the Player in the Community award at the Football League awards. The former skipper worked tirelessly with the Stevenage FC Foundation team on school visits and other special projects, engaging and inspiring youngsters.

A record number of 5-12 year olds attended Soccer Camps at the Stevenage FC Academy during the February half term. Approximately 200 youngsters attended over the five days which ran from 10am-3pm and proved an ideal boredom buster for many.
