2013 REVIEW: JANUARY

27 December 2013

Over these final few days of 2013 we’ll be looking back month-by-month at events on and off the pitch at the club during the past 12 months.

First up it’s January....

January

On the pitch:
2013 began with an away trip to Walsall but Stevenage returned home pointless after a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Midlands. Boro followed that up, however, with a 2-1 win at Crewe – goals from Lucas Akins and Marcus Haber saw Gary Smith’s men come from behind to take all three points.

High flying Doncaster Rovers were up next at The Lamex and despite taking the lead through a superb James Dunne volley (see below), managerless Rovers came from behind to grab a last-gasp 2-1 win.

The wintry weather then caused havoc during the second half of the month with fixtures against Brentford and Bury both postponed due to the extreme elements.

The January transfer window saw the arrival of Sam Hoskins and Steve Beleck on loan from Southampton and Watford respectively and Ben Chorley join from Leyton Orient. Leaving the club were Don Cowan and Rob Sinclair (both released), Oliver Risser and Robbie Rogers finished their loan spells and Michael Thalassitis moved on loan to Boreham Wood.

Off the pitch:
Plans for a new North Stand were announced by chairman Phil Wallace, accompanied by an image of the potential new stand. It was also revealed over 160 fans donated old or unwanted football shirts as part of the club’s shirt amnesty which saw tops from all kinds of teams donated to the Stevenage FC in the Community trip to Kenya in exchange for a £10 discount on a Stevenage home shirt.
