BORO ADVANCE IN HERTS SENIOR CUP

3 December 2013

4-0 win for Boro at Tring

Stevenage advanced into the third round of the Herts Senior Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win at Tring Athletic this evening.

With Graham Westley watching from the stands, Dino Maamria and Jason Goodliffe took charge of a Boro side which consisted of squad players and youth prospects Ryan Johnson and 'keeper Tyler Reading, with a sub bench filled by youth team players. There was also a welcome return to action for Ben Chorley after injury.

After a couple of early sighters for Parrett and Tansey, Boro broke the deadlock on 25 minutes. Tounkara had possession in the left channel and played the ball to Deacon, who cut inside and blasted home right-footed into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes later it was 2-0 when Parrett robbed Tring of possession halfway inside their half, got past two or three defenders and fired home a left-footed effort inside the box.

Chances were at a premium for Tring during the game but one ambitious effort from distance was comfortable for Tyler Reading, Boro’s keeper for the night.

Ten minutes before the break Boro extended their lead in fine fashion. The lively Parrett nicked possession and fed Tounkara, who advanced before laying the ball off for Tansey to drill home from 18 yards.

The midfielder went close after the break when a looping effort landed on the roof of the net before Boro scored their fourth just past the hour – Jordan Burrow firing home after Parrett’s effort had been parried by the Tring keeper.

Boro pushed for a fifth with Andrade looking particularly bright down the right flank and both Burrow and Tounkara each having a couple of efforts just wide. However Tring put up resistance as the game progressed, meaning the visitors had to settle for just the four goal win.

Stevenage: Reading, Gray, Chorley, Johnson, Deacon, Parrett, Wedgbury, Tounkara, Tansey, Andrade, Burrow
